George Clooney calls on Italian law to help protect his home in Lake Como.

George Clooney is taking the Italian law into his own hands. The Hollywood actor is tired of the public approaching his two villas in Lake Como, so he’s had a new bylaw issued to keep lurkers at bay.

According to The Telegraph, a €500 fine ($680 CAD) awaits anyone who comes within 100 metres of the star’s home, either by car or boat.

According to the publication, the mayor of Laglio Roberto Pozzi has given the go-ahead for the ruling. New photos posted near George’s villa also give details of the warning and fine.

The ordinance has been issued ahead of George’s birthday, which falls next month. The director is set to turn 53 at the beginning of May, and will most likely be celebrating with a big bash at his property, hence his wish for privacy.

The new regulation is said to protect George and his wife Amal, but also extends to his guests. The Academy Award winner usually likes to host parties and retreat to his two mansions, Villa Oleandra and Villa Margherita, in the spring and summer time.

This is not the first time that George has requested privacy from photographers and members of the public. Prior to his wedding last September, a similar ordinance was issued by the town mayor in June, stating that anyone found sailing or swimming within 100 meters of George’s villa could be fined up to £400.

At the time Mr Pozzi told Us Weekly: “It is now completely forbidden to stop outside the entrance to Clooney’s villa. It’s a question of traffic and security. It is very dangerous and it’s also an issue of privacy.”

This led many to speculate that George and his British lawyer love Amal would be tying the knot in his Italian home, however the couple chose to wed in Venice in a ceremony covered by HELLO! magazine.

Their star-studded nuptials took place on 27 September at the Ca’ Farsetti palace, with celebrity guests including Cindy Crawford and Emily Blunt in attendance.

“My verdict on being Mr and Mrs Clooney? It feels pretty damn great,” George told HELLO! magazine in an exclusive interview.
