Motorcyclist killed after Rosedale Valley

Road crash.

Female passenger also critically injured, currently in hospital

Toronto police said a 28-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Rosedale Valley Road overnight Thursday.
Toronto police said a 28-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Rosedale Valley Road overnight Thursday.
Toronto police say the man killed in an overnight motorcycle crash in Rosedale was an inexperienced rider who shouldn't have been out at night or carrying a passenger.
The 28-year-old man was killed after being thrown from his silver-coloured motorcycle and into a light pole on Rosedale Valley Road. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was also thrown from the bike and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said Thursday morning the male victim only had an M1 motorcycle licence, which means he was only certified to ride during daytime hours and was not to travel faster than 80 km/h on most roadways.
Witnesses told police speed was a factor in the crash.
Const. Clint Stibbe, with Toronto police's traffic services unit, said police have investigated many motorcycle crashes on Rosedale Valley Road, a winding strip of roadway that runs between Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue.
"We've had a number of motorcycle collisions ... where the riders have suffered serious injuries," Stibbe said.
Police cordoned off Rosedale Valley Road from Park Road to Bayview Avenue to investigate what caused the crash, but the roadway reopened around 6:30 a.m.
This is the second motorcycle death on Toronto roads this year, Stibbe said.
