Irina Shayk reveals why she split with Cristiano Ronaldo: 'He fooled me... I feel completely betrayed'
Nearly six months after their split, Cristiano Ronaldo's former flame has explained why she broke up with the Real Madrid superstar - and he doesn't come out of it well.
When Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk broke up at the start of the year, all sorts of stories flew around.
Did Irina have a problem with Ronaldo's mum, and refuse to attend a birthday party?
Did she feel overshadowed by his fame and looks, as she suggested in one interview, and belittled by a man who made her feel "ugly and insecure"?
While those and other stories made headlines over the past few months, it appears the true reason has been revealed - and it's a lot more normal: Ronaldo, Irina now claims, did the dirty by sending flirty messages to "dozens of girls" around the world.
The Sun on Sunday runs the story - on its front page, of course - in which it claims that "The Russian model, 29, ended their five-year relationship after finding out about messages from theReal Madrid star, 30, to dozens of women around the world. Ronaldo confessed to his girlfriend after a furious row on New Year’s Eve."
Irina apparently confessed this to a "source close to the pair" - though that "source" will probably not be so close to the pair now that he or she has cashed in with a story in the Sunday tabloids.
If the source is to be believed, the model did not mince her words:
"Now I know the truth and I feel completely betrayed. I trusted him and stuck up for him when there were rumours he had been with other women. I feel stupid that Cristiano has fooled me."
The paper claims that Irina, "fuelled by suspicions that he was cheating", did a bit of detective work to uncover evidence of the messages: "The relationship unravelled as the pair planned a party at their home in Madrid with friends when Irina spotted one of Cristiano’s phone statements lying around.
"She saw many numbers she did not recognise and checked them on messaging apps. To her horror, she discovered the profiles attached to the numbers carried pictures of women from across the globe."
Ronaldo, the paper's source claims, "initially denied any knowledge" but "eventually admitted to messaging the girls".
The source added that, "He gave little excuse. She couldn’t believe it so immediately got out of the house. She ended the relationship there and then."
Interestingly, nowhere in the piece does the paper allege anything other than messages being sent - no Tiger Woods-esque tales of grubby dalliances with porn actresses in discreet hotel rooms here.
The piece does, however, add that Irina is now seeing Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper.
