NIGERIA IN DISARRAY: MTN, FCMB, Airtel, Arik Air, AERO Contractors, Radio stations shut down to fuel scarcity.

The fuel scarcity being witnessed in Nigeria has continued to cause a shutdown of business and leading commercial bank, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has not been left out.

The bank sent out an email notice to its customers on Sunday, May 24, 2015, that it would be forced to close its branches at 1pm instead of the usual time of 4pm due to the fuel shortage.

The notice reads:
“The current shortage of petroleum products in the country has limited our ability to supply diesel to all our branches, in order to continue normal branch operations.”
“Due to this, we unavoidably have to close our branches nationwide at 1pm, from tomorrow Monday, 25th May 2015.”

“Whilst we have had to take this step to close branch operations early, we would like to seek your understanding at this time, and assure you that we will continue to work hard at finding alternative solutions to this situation and will advise you once the situation has abated.”

“However, all our alternative channels will be fully functional and available for all your Personal and Business Banking.”

The scarcity has also led to the cancellation of flights and the closure of radio stations.

Telecommunication companies, MTN and Airtel have also warned that their services are likely to be affected by the unavailability of fuel.

The current ‘biting’ scarcity of petroleum products in the country may be taking a turn for the worse, as major domestic airlines in the country yesterday cancelled their flights, leaving thousands of air travellers stranded.

The two largest domestic carriers, Arik Air and Aero Contractors, cancelled all their flights because of the scarcity of aviation fuel.

Passengers who thronged the Abuja airport with the intention of travelling out of the city were stranded as their flights were cancelled.
