At about 5:30 a.m., a truck arrived at the hospital with two people inside.
The driver of the truck and another accomplice fled the scene on foot after leaving the man behind to be treated by staff.
Investigators say that the incident is most likely connected   to a series of smash-and-grab robberies throughout the City of Calgary overnight.
They believe the man was injured at a Liquor Depot location in Ogden. Two other businesses, a Shell station and a Mac's store, were also robbed by the same method.
Police say two people have been arrested in the area of the Rockyview General Hospital, but it's not clear if the man in hospital is included in that total.
Investigators say they have seized the truck, believed to be stolen, that was used in the robberies. "The pedestrian was part of a crew that was involved in the smash and grab and he may have been run over by the offending vehicle," says Sergeant Colin Foster with the CPS Traffic Unit. "At this stage, he is in critical condition. We do have the vehicle involved in this collision, but there are still people outstanding and we're looking for them at this moment."
No one else was injured as a result of the incidents.
